Sonya Macfarlane

M.A., LPC

Sonya began working with the neurodivergent community in classroom settings and developed a passion for her work, which led her to pursue a master’s degree. She earned her degree at St. Edward’s University. Her undergraduate degree is in music, and she also completed a theater minor—both of which she enjoys incorporating into her work with clients. Additionally, Sonya has grown up with many neurodivergent family members, including herself.

Sonya partners with clients to address anxiety, grief, trauma, and other challenges. Many are struggling with depression, burnout, or relationship issues that leave them exhausted and unsure of where to turn. She also works with parents seeking guidance, individuals living with chronic pain, and people navigating the complexities of OCD or PTSD. It is important to Sonya that her clients feel understood and safe. She recognizes how overwhelming and challenging it can be to live in a neurotypical world.

During therapy, Sonya helps clients uncover practical solutions that fit their lives. Using evidence-based approaches like Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), she supports clients in building skills to manage difficult emotions, improve relationships, and regain a sense of control. For children especially, Sonya incorporates play and expressive arts to make therapy engaging and effective. Her approach is collaborative, intuitive, and grounded in the mind–body connection—because healing isn’t just about thoughts, but about how a person experiences daily life.

With experience supporting clients from ages 4 to 70+, Sonya has helped people navigate grief, addiction, trauma, parenting challenges, and more. Her goal is to create a safe, judgment-free space where you can explore what’s holding you back—and take steps toward a more fulfilling life.
