Dr. Walter Scott Newsom, Ph.D.
Dr. Scott Newsom is a licensed psychologist who joined the Spectrum team in 2017 to provide developmental neuropsychological assessments for children, adolescents and adults. Dr. Newsom specializes in the assessment of neurodevelopmental disorders like Autism, ADD/ADHD, Learning Disorders, and associated social, emotional and behavioral problems. An Austin native, Dr. Newsom went to public schools and completed his undergraduate degree in Psychology at Southwest Texas State University. He earned his Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology from Texas Tech University in 1998 and completed his pre-doctoral internship at the prestigious Michael E. DeBakey V.A. Medical Center in Houston, Texas. During his career, Dr. Newsom has had the privilege of working in private practice, forensic, educational and psychiatric settings, each of which contributed to developing his expertise as an assessment professional. With over 20 years of post-graduate experience, Dr. Newsom especially enjoys helping clients and their families understand the complex neuropsychological factors underlying the problems they face. His reports are detailed and useful in clinical, medical and educational settings.
Dr. Michelle Edwards, Ph.D.
Michelle is a Licensed Psychologist with extensive experience in psychological assessment with both adults and children. Michelle graduated with a PhD from APA Accredited New Mexico State University in Counseling Psychology and with a Master’s degree in Social Work from the University of Texas at Austin. Michelle provides comprehensive psychological assessment for cognitive, emotional, and behavioral issues. She has over 10 year’s experience in providing psychological assessment, and has attended many training and consultation groups on assessment. Michelle has specific experience with providing Autism Spectrum Disorder assessments. She has done psychological assessments in a psychiatric treatment center for children and adolescents, and in private practice for children, adolescents, and adults. Michelle believes psychological assessment is a valuable tool to help client’s live better lives by understanding the underlying issues contributing to issues they are experiencing. She is known for doing assessment with respect and empathy for her clients. In her spare time, Michelle enjoys traveling, practicing yoga, bike riding, going to dinner with friends, and spending time with her two active teenage children.
