Dr. Walter Scott Newsom, Ph.D.

Dr. Scott Newsom is a licensed psychologist who has been a valuable member of the Spectrum team since 2017. Specializing in developmental neuropsychological assessments, he works with children, adolescents, and adults to diagnose and understand a range of neurodevelopmental disorders, including Autism, ADHD, Learning Disorders, and related social, emotional, and behavioral challenges.

A native of Austin, Texas, Dr. Newsom attended public schools and earned his undergraduate degree in Psychology from Southwest Texas State University. He went on to receive his Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology from Texas Tech University in 1998. During his doctoral training, Dr. Newsom completed a pre-doctoral internship at the esteemed Michael E. DeBakey V.A. Medical Center in Houston, Texas.

With over 20 years of experience, Dr. Newsom has had the privilege of working across diverse settings, including private practice, forensic, educational, and psychiatric environments. Each of these experiences has contributed to his expertise in assessment and diagnosis, making him highly skilled at identifying the complex neuropsychological factors behind his clients’ challenges.

Dr. Newsom is particularly passionate about helping individuals and families gain clarity regarding the underlying cognitive and emotional factors impacting their lives. His detailed reports are not only insightful but are also instrumental in informing clinical, medical, and educational decisions, providing families and professionals with practical and actionable guidance.

Dr. Michelle Edwards, Ph.D.

Michelle is a Licensed Psychologist with extensive experience in conducting psychological assessments for both children and adults. She earned her Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology from the APA-accredited New Mexico State University and holds a Master’s degree in Social Work from the University of Texas at Austin.

With over 10 years of experience, Michelle specializes in providing comprehensive psychological assessments for cognitive, emotional, and behavioral concerns. She has received extensive training and participated in numerous consultation groups focused on psychological assessment. Michelle has specific expertise in Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) evaluations and has conducted assessments in various settings, including psychiatric treatment centers for children and adolescents, as well as in private practice for children, adolescents, and adults.

Michelle views psychological assessments as a powerful tool to help clients gain a deeper understanding of the underlying issues affecting their well-being. Known for her respectful and empathetic approach, Michelle strives to ensure that her clients feel heard and supported throughout the assessment process.

Outside of her professional work, Michelle enjoys traveling, practicing yoga, bike riding, dining with friends, and spending quality time with her two active teenage children.
