Sonya Macfarlane

M.A. LPC
Psychotherapist

Sonya began working within the neurodivergent community in the classroom setting and developed a passion for her work which grew into pursuing her master’s degree. She earned her degree at St. Edward’s University; her undergraduate degree is in music and she also completed a theater minor, Sonya enjoys incorporating both into her work with clients. Additionally, Sonya has grown up with many neurodivergent family members, including herself.

Sonya works with her clients to address anxiety, grief, trauma, and many other difficulties faced by her clients. Many clients are struggling with depression, burnout, or relationship issues that leave them exhausted and unsure of where to turn. She also works with parents who are seeking guidance, individuals dealing with chronic pain, and people navigating the complexities of OCD or PTSD, it is important to Sonya that her clients feel understood and safe. She understands how overwhelming and challenging it can be to live in a neurotypical world.

During therapy, Sonya works with her clients to uncover practical solutions that fit their lives. Using evidence-based approaches like Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Emotionally Focused Therapy, Sonya helps her clients build skills to manage difficult emotions, improve relationships, and regain control. For children especially, Sonya incorporates play and expressive arts to make therapy engaging and effective. Her approach is collaborative, intuitive, and grounded in the mind-body connection—because healing isn’t just about thoughts, but how a person experiences life every day.

With experience supporting clients from ages 4 to 70+, Sonya has helped people navigate grief, addiction, trauma, parenting challenges, and more. Her goal is to create a safe, judgment-free space where you can explore what’s holding you back—and take steps toward a more fulfilling life.
